To the Nature with Body

I Yatoo

I stopped working in 'Yatoo Nature Art Association' in 1990 with a final work titled 'House on Sand', in Geum river side in winter season. I showed first nature art in Chongbeuk Geum river in Gongju in summer season. It was not a short term. I could call my art work in the nature an art project done for comparatively a long time. It is because the works kept constant character in the methods and ideas. However, I worked differently in different seasons and places.

I obtained many things through Yatoo. In my sensitive young days, I was able to form my sensitivity flexibly in Yatoo. And I expanded my art world farther than a studio in an art school could take me. And also the experience in Yatoo gave me a lot of energy to express the wide interest about the human being and nature and objects through the logical process of thought, instead of just following visual sense in my indoor work painting, which developed after leaving Yatoo.

I experienced meeting nature through art as stepping inside the veil of nature working with Yatoo Members. Like the stars which are separated ten thousands light years from each other meeting as an aster-ism, nature instantly found a place in my work accepting my thoughts willingly and always comfortable without any self-praise.

Also, I exprienced my sensitivity making responses lively to nature, through direct confront with nature. Works made with nature provoke unknown artistic interest and had a power of making other existing art styles look dull. At that time, all colleagues in the field felt pleased about other's good work as it was their works, and they expect to get that kind of present from nature.
