Artist Statement

I have been expressing the process of interchange with objects as an intelligent and sensible painting during last several years. I begin by focusing on colour and surface, working closely with the everyday and natural objects that I find around me objects that might normally be missed through carelessness.

For me, colour doesn't work well as an element for expressing emotion and total harmony and valence in the painting. The colours keep their self regulating and pure quality, and the colours leaves an everyday object, it guides us towards it, but then returns to reflect back upon itself. thus for me, colour is capable of "dilating" a real entity. and, as it leaves the object surface, colour is propagated to the painting area, which in turn reflects it back onto the original source through the same process of propagation.

My recent two dimensional works would be thought as a form mixed with my conceptual works in the outdoor. My works in the outside were what I tried artistic contacting with everyday objects and the nature through my body and drawing. It is also for generating a sort of spiritual  esthetic sense conveying to me at the moment meeting my idea and the nature.

Now days I am developing my work again into the space from canvas work producing three dimensional shapes. This kind of my working process, expanding into the space where in essence objects are being, gives me rich idea about things and art itself.

Statement

As originally Dang-kee hair is one of the Korean traditional hair styles, It was a method take caring unmarried woman and man's growing hair well the most. In this work I chose human's hair to express liveliness of the human being and the nature and to present the oneness and especially I used the dang-kee hair shape which is very traditional and a symbol of youth.

I explained that how man and the nature can be union in terms of concept and shape as I show the unified form 'growing plant' and 'growing hair'.  I figured that  Dang-kee hair growing long powerfully from the earth is looking at the sky like  general plants and trees in the nature.

Around six hundred Dang-kee hair which have different colours as mainly black and different hight, and curved unlikely means different life style and time and created forest scene divided as two side like parted human's hair would make viewers to ask themselves about their identity and time and the meaning of life.

Moreover I added practical function rather actively attending in my work and feel and enjoying  as let people walk between Dang-kee hair.
